Festival Headliner Randy Bachman Named an Honorary Fellow of The Royal Conservatory
Posted onOn May 22nd, our headliner for Mariposa Folk Festival 2013, singer, songwriter and phenomenal guitarist, Randy Bachman, was named an Honorary Fellow of The Royal Conservatory in recognition of his important contributions to Canadian music.
We can think of no one more deserving than Randy Bachman. Randy Bachman has contributed immensely to the landscape of Canadian music, strengthening arts and culture across the nation. As a cultural ambassador for Canada, he has provided inspiration and enjoyment to millions of people around the world.
Randy Bachman began studying classical violin with The Royal Conservatory at age six. He went on to become a legendary figure in the rock and roll world as a performer, musician and producer. Reaching spectacular success with his bands The Guess Who and Bachman Turner Overdrive, Randy’s unstoppable drive to create music led to timeless hits like American Woman and Takin’ Care of Business. He has sold over 40 million records and is an Officer of the Order of Canada. Since 2005, Randy has hosted CBC Radio’s very popular Vinyl Tap, where he continues to share stories and songs from the road with millions of listeners.
As an Honorary Fellow of The Royal Conservatory, Randy Bachman joins a distinguished group including Measha Brueggergosman, Adrienne Clarkson, Bruce Cockburn, Robertson Davies, Leslie Feist, Leon Fleisher, Nelly Furtado, Tomson Highway, Richard Margison, Oscar Peterson, and The Tragically Hip.
