Dane Pedersen

Dane Pedersen is a singer-songwriter from Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, performing as a solo artist within the contemporary folk and roots tradition. He is a songwriter who lets songs speak for themselves. On stage, he holds a room with quiet control, carried by a warm, steady voice, understated fingerstyle guitar, and a reverence for the song that stills the room. By the final note, even familiar songs can feel newly uncovered. Pedersen’s connection to folk music began early, after discovering CDs by Stan Rogers and JP Cormier as a child — an introduction to songs that carried story, weight, and emotional truth. His work now moves between original songs and carefully chosen reinterpretations, drawing from the Canadian folk tradition — weatherworn songs and the quiet poetry of ordinary lives. Pedersen holds a Bachelor of Music degree from St. Francis Xavier University, though his performances remain rooted less in virtuosity than in service to the song. He has been recognized through leading Canadian emerging artist programs, including as a 2026 winner of both the Mariposa Folk Festival Emerging Artist Showcase and the Robinson Emerging Artist Showcase at the Goderich Celtic Roots Festival. He has performed at major festivals including the Stan Rogers Folk Festival, Lunenburg Folk Harbour Festival, Winnipeg Folk Festival, and Celtic Colours International Festival, establishing himself within a growing national network of respected stages. As noted by Steve MacIntyre, Artistic Director of the Stan Rogers Folk Festival, “Dane Pedersen is a rare find. A young performer who is truly ready for a long career. Every song, every note is considered, and delivered with a weight far beyond his years.” His debut EP, Travelling Alone, balances original writing with carefully chosen reinterpretations of the music that shaped him. At the centre of it all is a belief in the lasting power of a well-told song.
