Hailing from the shores of Turtle Island, Nimkii and the Niniis (NATN) are a singing group based out of central Ontario, whose debut EP, Nang Giizhigoong, was a Juno Award nominee for Traditional Indigenous Artist of the Year at the 2022 Juno Awards. Their latest EP LFS5 (Live From Shed 5) was nominated in the same category in 2024. NATN was founded in the heat of the pandemic in 2020, as a means to support Indigenous storytellers and keep the language(s) alive through music. The band, led by Nimkii Osawamick performing traditional drumming and choral singing, brings that good feeling to the world. The group has travelled to WOMEX 2023 (World Music Expo) in Spain, showcasing the traditional sounds and stories of Turtle Island (North America). NATN also had the opportunity to sing at the Imaginative’s red carpet premiere for Marvel Studio’s new TV series ECHO.
