Kalàscima feat. Andrea Ramolo

Kalàscima is where the antique meets the modern with an explosive result. Explosive, energetic, and captivating, Kalàscima is one of Italy’s hottest bands. Some friends from Salento (Apulia, Italy), who grew up with the melodies and the hypnotic rhythms of the magical ritual of Taranta, reinvent the tradition with a wild mix of electronics and lysergic beats, original melodies and folk atmospheres. The dialect of Salento, English and Griko create a bridge between the Apulian music and the international scene.

The live set is powerful and energetic and features many traditional and fascinating instruments (bagpipe, ciaramella, launeddas, tambourine, accordion), a spectacularly vast array of percussions, thrilling vocals, and modern instruments (laptops and synthesizers) to create an original sound.

Kalàscima are conquering audiences all over the world. Their sound has catapulted them into the international world music scene and brought them to festivals like SXSW (US), Roskilde Festival (DK), Colours of Ostrava (CZ), Tallin Music Week (EE), SIM Sao Paulo (BR), Mundial Montreal (CA), Seoul Music Week (KR), Babel Med (FR), Seoul Music Week (KR) Folk Alliance International Conference (CA), Fira Mediterrania de Manresa (ES), Australasian World Music Expo (AU), Medimex (IT) and many others, gaining critics’ approval, and an excited fan base. Tours in Australia, Ecuador, Brazil, Japan, South Korea, China, India, USA, Israel, Germany, Denmark, Belgium, Switzerland, France, Spain, Portugal, Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary, Slovakia, Austria, Albania, Croatia, Slovenia, Kosovo, Macedonia, Estonia, Latvia, and Giordania give the band a solid international reputation. In June 2019 the band opened the Patti Smith’s Italian concert, earning the
attention of the international rock star that praised the energy of the band.

The album Psychedelic Trance Tarantella (Ponderosa, 2014) placed 1st in the World CMJ Radio Chart (after two months in top 10) and in April 2015 placed 6th in the World Music Chart Europe. The album is also proud to present the artistic collaboration of Ludovico Einaudi, playing the piano in the song ‘Due mari’.

Kalascima’s music and concerts graced radio networks such as ABC Australia (AU), RTHK (Hong Kong), WDR (DE), RTBF (BE), RSI (CH), Radio 3 RAI (IT). In November 2015 the band was on the cover of Trad Magazine in France. Their newest endeavour is a collaboration with Italian-Canadian recording artist Andrea Ramolo with the intention of continuing to expose foreign audiences to the traditions and sounds of southern Italy, in a fresh and invigorating way.
